Learning Continue

I found strong interest in SQL a few years ago while I was developing .NET application and website. I started reading SQL books and Microsoft Book Online (BOL), and continue my learning through a few great SQL bloggers. Just FYI, SQL communities are amazing!

While I was trying to broaden and deepen my knowledge in SQL stacks (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS), I decided to take the Microsoft 60-days challenge last December to become MSCE in Business Intelligence. Although I have previously designed reports and developed integration service package, analysis service has been something that I wanted to get involved more. It wasn't as easy and I was thrilled when I passed the last test. Check out my expression when I walked out the test center.

Fast forward a few months, I decided to take the other 2 exams, Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases (70-464) and Designing Database Solutions for SQL Server 2012 (70-465). One reason is to become MCSE for Data Platform, but another reason is to test my understanding in these two subjects. I believe a DBA or SQL developer could provide a better solution if he/she has some knowledge of both database design and development. I was glad when I found out Microsoft combines the certification path for development and DBA for SQL 2012.

I passed the exams and achieved the MCSE for Data Platform. I got to learn a few more things from the preparation as well as exam questions. While I have earned my MSCE, my journey of learning SQL Server and Business Intelligence continue. I believe 'learning by teaching' is one of the most efficient way of getting a better understanding of a product. In fact that was the reason I started this blog last year. My goal is to continue to blog here consistently and hopefully you and me can learn something from each other along the way.
